What a thrill to find Bikel performing in Yiddish and recorded as live video! I'm very grateful that so much Bikel music is available on UA-cam, but until now I'd found only his studio albums. Except for an excerpt from Fiddler and one of a balalaika band that brought the elderly Bikel up from the audience to sing and play with them, I hadn't found live Bikel music videos. (There are interviews.) So this is a real metsiya and an oytser (a find and a treasure). Bikel (1924-2015) would have been about 87. BTW, the poet and composer, Mordechai Gebirtig (1877-1944) was probably the most prolific and widely sung composer of folk-style Yiddish songs, although it is unlikely that he knew how widespread his songs were. The Nazis killed him before he knew, so his renown was posthumous. Thank you, Bob, and God bless KlezKanada.
